Covestro, global leaders in polymer based materials celebrated World Environment day on 5th June across India. This year India had the privilege to be the host nation for the 43rd edition of World Environment Day of the global event. Committed towards curbing the use of non- biodegradable plastics and creating awareness on recyclable and reusing plastics, Covestro India organized various activities across offices and facilities.

On this occasion, Ajay Durrani, Managing Director, Covestro India said, “With the aim to increase awareness around the harmful effects of plastic pollution we have involved our stakeholders, employees and children by sensitizing them about single use plastic and its harmful effects. It is our constant endeavor to work on the possibilities of using our solutions in various sectors, which will prove to be beneficial to the environment and also help in fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s).”

In line with the United Nations – Sustainable Development Goals, Covestro has set an ambitious goal for 2025 by trying to reduce emissions, ensuring sustainability standards by suppliers, aligning research with the goals of the United Nations, improving livelihoods of ten million people in underserved markets and by getting the most out of carbon.

With the aim of sensitizing the younger generation on sustainability, Covestro kick-started a poster competition on World Earth Day, 22nd April,  for the children of Covestro India employees between the age group of 5- 16 years. On the Environment Day, the company organized poster competition on the theme of ‘Save the environment’ for the age group of 5-8 years & ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ for 9-12 & 13-16 years. These bright minds shared interesting concepts, imagination truly reflecting Covestro’s values of Curious, Courageous and Colorful.

Covestro also organized informative sessions for employees to emphasize upon the importance of beating plastic pollution and how as a citizen we can contribute to a bigger cause. Tree plantation activity and group discussion on recyclable plastics were also some of the activities conducted at various facilities.

Additionally, Covestro participated in the World Environment day Exhibition organised by FICCI at Vigyan Bhavan, Delhi from 2nd June 2018 to 5th June 2018 which focused on  raising  awareness about Covestro’s energy efficient and sustainable solutions for the Indian market.

The team of Covestro India also had the opportunity to speak on ‘Waste to Resource (W2R): A conceptual framework and entrepreneurship opportunities’.
